I had a thought, or thoughts more so, while driving today. What do you ultimately want? Like ACTUALLY want most? Rid your mind of answers that are driven by the way the worlds run today (to graduate college, get a nice home in the suburbs etc) Mostly, I want love, and hand and hand comes peace & happiness. As hippy-ish as that sounds. In a perfect world, I’d set out to california with nothing on my back but a guitar. No clothes on or with me. I’d go and I’d just be in the lands, and play music and share my love for music and talent with others. We’d all just inhabit the land around us with one another, in harmony & peace with nothing but love around us all. But in today’s world, if I were to do that I’d either A) get raped B) get murdered C) be arrested or D) all of the above. Since I’m not ignorant I will obviously not be doing that. Of course if I really wanted to I could go live in my natural form in the woods, but then I’d be compeletly alone because nobody lives like that, and isolation is not the answer. Now don’t get me wrong, I still want peace, love, and happiness most in life. And I have a fair amount. But it just tripped me out how today’s society and functioning of the world impacts so much of how we must live our lives. Go to school to go to school to go to work to retire, and all the climbs & climbs to get to the nexts climbs in between. I’m what I like to call a modern day hippy, because I still live my life with soul & love most the good interactions with other beings, they’re one of my most favorite things in this life. I still am going to college, because unless I want to be homeless I’m going to have to pay the bills oneway or another. And other reasons I wont bother getting into now. And I do think some things in school are great. Also I will be pursuing music & acting because the performing arts are something I’ve had a deep love for forever. But basically, I just wanted to give some food for thought and also remind everyone to not get caught up in worldly things, even though induldging in them is completely fine. Don’t lose light of what makes you happy most, and strive for that. Who knows, maybe I’ll meet a group of likeminded individuals along my journey of life & go live in some far away land, co-exisiting in absolute peace, love, and happiness~

8-years ago, CHP Officer Kevin Briggs talked this young man out of jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.

That young man’s name is Kevin Berthia.
Today he is 30 years old and married with 2 children.
This week he presented Officer Briggs with an award on behalf of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The story of how Officer Briggs talked Kevin down is remarkable.

As you can see in the picture, Kevin is literally one step away from jumping to his death. But for more than hour, the officer listened to Kevin pour his heart out about his troubles and told him, “I know you think things are bad, but they can get better.”

Kevin says, “Officer Briggs never made me feel guilty for the situation I was in. He made feel like, I understand why you are here, but there are alternatives”

Kevin is just one of countless lives Briggs has saved over his 23 year career.

Briggs, who was promoted to Sergeant five years ago, is humble about what he does. He says, ”they make the decision, when they step back over that rail it takes a tremendous amount of courage”

I salute Sergeant Briggs!
